What I am Going on about...

This is a list of the songs (in no certain order) and a description of what (I think) they are about.

  • monstr0 - This song is a 1st person narrative from a crooked dictator that will use any means to keep people under their rule. “I am the king, of everything / That I can get away with.”
  • therapy - This is what happens when you call in specialists to help you deal with your troubled history.
  • olives &  almonds - Title is from a grocery list. But it has more to do with avoiding superstitions or “magic” as a way to knowledge.
  • imagine that - Is a conversation with a despot. Basically telling them, “yeah I know you have an air force, but we have love and art and -so you can go suck it.”
  • new new one - Dystopian blues. A person can fail on so many levels. Economically, socially, spiritually, artistically. I think this covers all of those.
  • overwrought - This is about spending the bulk of your time working with people you have no connection to,  other than a paycheck. They likely are not your family or friends yet you spend more of your waking hours with them than you do with you friends or family.
  • two eggs any style - This song is about people’s inability to appreciate how hard some jobs are to do and how they can jam up the works with their selfish behavior.
  • to arms - This is a love song. But Maria always felt like it is from the point of view of a serial killer/stalker type.
  • irresponsible - This is a song about observing a fallen spiritual “leader.”
  • estate - This is a song about the homeless. There are no covenants and restrictions or home owners orgs for their lots in life.
  • it ends - This is a song about addiction, loss, and becoming unraveled.
  • gardenia radicans - They were in bloom when we started writing this.
  • minervamerica - America the warrior goddess.
  • second best - It’s about gun violence. How in very little time things can go very wrong.
  • detached - This is about history. How it is always subjective and very much sifting through the wreckage to postulate on what happened.

Last Night You Missed...

legs

If you didn't make it out to Snug Harbor last night; you missed out on seeing locals: The Swaggerettes and touring act (MS) Come On Go With Us. Yes here you have it, proof that we do in fact get out from time to time. Burying that bus behind the recording compound does take a lot of time, dontcha know?

Recording..

We've been pretty productive this Holiday break. Thus far we've gotten all the drum tracks, most of the bass and half of the guitar tracking done. Check our mobile uploads bin for pictures...

Chicago / Columbus / St Louis

Here are some pictures from our show at the Elbo Room and in Chicago.

Bernie's is a Great little Punk Rock Basement. Locals Rustmoth were so cool and supportive. We can't WAIT to come back to Columbus. We had 3 comedians open the show and that was such a fun transition into the rock.

We had a super time last night in St Louis. Four bands cancelled but Carridale, Illicitizen, and Hear Me Roar still managed to kill it in the Lounge at FUBAR. Superb bar, great sound.
Pics:

Peter Wochniak took a bunch of pictures of us so be looking for those soon.
Sorry to be so brief but we need to hit the road if we are going to be in Memphis in time to say hi to Elvis (and ancient Greece). I will hopefully be posting a more complere accounting when I get back to the Queen City.
Ciao.

Nov 9. So tired have to drive in the a.m.

great show w/ Rustmoth in Columbus. Have to eat and crash for tomorrow brings hell-driving to St Louis .

Nov 8 INDIANA IS BIG

Wow I had no idea we would be spending so much time in Indiana. Traveling from Cincinnati to Chicago allows you a lot of time to think about... well everything. Some noteworthy things I saw. Some crazy looking deciduous trees that had some kind of fruit or flower that was pale yellow and round like a tennis ball. The leaves were all gone. No idea what they were and at 70mph zipping up I-65 I don't think I will have a chance to figure it out. Also Northern IN has a serious wind farm you can see for miles out on I-65. Those things are both creepy and beautiful.
Also as a non-sports enthusiast I would like to lobby for our own lane. Da Bears were letting out when we got to Chicago so the trip to the motel was about 1.5 hrs of creeping on the freeway.
Here are some pics. We're off to find some dinner before heading to Bernie's Distillery. We are currently about 8 miles away @ the motel.I will upload the rest of this set of pics and some from the show in Chicago that ROB DUMAS was so gracious to come out and take. Thanks @stray!

Sorry to all the fine bands that rocked the Blue Rock Tavern. Our cam battery died right after we got there. Here are the pics up until that point.

Nov 6. Pt 2

Details later...must sleep

Nov 6. We Made it to Nashville, Mom.

Putting the ROCK to Rockslide we finally got around that sucker on I-40. Emerson, we finally opted for 321 to Johnson City. I don't know if we'll do that on the way back. Maria and mountains do not mix well.

We got started at 5am this morning and were on the road shortly after 6. The mission began the night before with the ritual shaving of the singer's head. Here are some pictures. If you are in the N Nashville TN area tonight, ride up to the Loudhouse in Greenbrier TN for the show.

ILLICITIZEN ALBUM ART search

Ok, so we are accepting submissions for album art. In the realm of Good, Fast, and Cheap (Pick Any Two) -we pick Good, and Cheap (or inexpensive). I probably won't need it for more than a month or two. Parties desirous of submitting art should be familiar with our work. About half of the album is available online in demo form. I'd prefer you sent me links to submissions. I may just DIY it. But if someone wants to take a stab at it... have at thee. Artwork must be free of copyright hangups, restrictions or shit that would make it illegal for us to use it. We can talk about price but I've never had anything created by anyone else. So feel free to make a suggestion. We're broke-arsed musicans. Keep that in mind.

Hi ho, Slow it Goes

Hey everyone, here's a quick update on the recording process. Maria is about halfway done with the bass guitar tracks. I've just barely started tracking guitar. We got sidetracked by my trip to FL and the break in the waterline. Everything is still on track for the November tour.

Post Durham Post

This was seriously about the most fun we've had playing live. Despite the short set and the 3 flights of stairs I had to lug our gear up we had a blast and met some really progressive thinking people. Durham rocks. I can't wait to go back.

Telltale Signs

That illicitizen has been away...
otherwise there'd be two of these completely full
From 2009 Misc

So yeah, I cleared all the memory on this camera, recharged the battery and promptly left it on the counter when we left for the Winter '09 Mid-Atlantic Micro Tour. But you can tell by the utter emptiness of the recycle bin that we were away for a little while.
2/26 Chapel Hill NC - The Cave. This is getting to be a regular thing with us. We played this with Instant Jones, a wonderful band from Burlington, NC. I encourage you tell your local drinking/music establishment to have them come and play in your town too.
2/27 Washington D.of C. - Surprise Guerrilla House Party. Hey this was supposed to just be a sight-seeing info-gathering but turned into a full fledged bacchanalia house party. We picked up some good leads on playing in WDC and Baltimore. We definitely want to come on back yonder.
2/28 Richmond, VA - The Czar. Wow, amazing space to play. Good crowd. We handed out a bunch of CDs and got the thumbs up to come back so you know we will. Unfortunately the weather and parking conspired against us seeing much of RVA but perhaps next time?

Randy had a heart attack early Monday evening while driving on Barber Street. His van drifted off the road and tipped over. No other people or vehicles were involved. Rescue workers did CPR at the scene and he was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center. He is in ICU. Keep Randy, his sons, family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
